How to Create the PERFECT Instagram Bio (in 6 Steps)
The Perfect Instagram Bio
Creating the perfect Instagram bio can be a daunting task, right? It has to describe what you offer and also catch your ideal follower’s eye. The Instagram bio area is such a small space, but it also gives you endless brand personalization options.
In this post, you will learn how to create the perfect Instagram Bio for your brand in 6 simple yet essential steps.
What is your Instagram Bio?
Instagram is a photo and video social network. On Instagram, people can share photos and videos with their followers. The content that each user shares is stored and displayed in their Instagram profile. A user’s Instagram profile includes a biography area.
Some elements in the Instagram Bio are:
- Profile Photo
- Number of Posts, Followers, and Following.
- Name
- Bio Description
- Contact Info.
Why is your Instagram Bio so important?
Your Bio is the first thing people see and read when they view your profile. As a result, your bio is the first impression people have of you. First impressions can make or break or break a business. An optimized and eye-catching Instagram Bio will attract more leads to your business.
6 Essential Steps to create the PERFECT Instagram Bio:
1) Set Profile Picture
Your profile picture must represent your brand.
- Logo: If you are using your logo as your profile picture, it should be a scaled-down version. Unless your logo is already small and easy to read.
- Headshot: If you are a personal brand, using a headshot is great. Your headshot should be clear and representative of your brand. For example, if you have a happy and cheerful brand your picture should be colorful or if you have a more serious and professional brand your picture should represent that.
Michelle is a very colorful and cheerful designer. Also, her branding has yellow as a main color. Her picture is eye-catching, clear, and representative of her brand.
The Financial Diet has a scaled-down version of their logo. It is clear who they are and it is representative of their brand.
2) SEO Optimized Name
The name field is separate from your username handle. As a result, you can customize your name and include keywords related to your business.
Including keywords in your name will allow people to find you quickly since they are searchable.
As you can see, I search for blogging tips and branding. Accounts with those keywords appeared at the top of my search.
💡 Tip: Think about what your ideal followers are typing on the search bar.
✏️ Note: you don’t need to use keywords in your name if you don’t want to. This is simply a way to increase your visibility.
3) Write Bio Description
The bio description needs to communicate your purpose. What is the purpose of your brand? Who are you helping and how? What is unique? What are your core values?
Chelsea communicates who she is helping and how. She also included a CTA (view next step).
Amy communicates her professional title, who she helps, and how. She also included a CTA (view next step).
💡 Tip: If you have any personalized brand hashtags include them.
✏️ Note: Your purpose should be SHORT and CLEAR.
4) Add a Call To Action (CTA)
The purpose of a call-to-action is to tell the user what to do next. The CTA will guide them on taking the next step. Without the CTA users will probably leave without acting the way you would like them to.

They are both great CTAs. They tell the viewer what to do next.
5) Add Website Link
If you own a website be sure to add it to your profile. This will drive traffic from your Instagram profile to your web page.
Both High Moon Studio and Ana Johnson have links.
This directs clients directly to your web page.
💡 Tip: If you would like to add more than one link Linktree is a free bio link tool. It works like a link hub. Where you can redirect users to different pages of your website.
6) Add Contact Details
Adding contact details will allow your potential clients to reach you. The main contact details you can add on your profile are:
- Business email
- Business phone number
Both Michelle Reed and Well+Good have available emails.
This way, potential clients and brands can contact you easily.
All in all,
Your Instagram Bio should be a teaser of who you are, what you do, how you do it, and for whom. Your bio needs to catch your ideal followers eye and also give a glimpse about the content you are posting.
It may sound difficult to include all of this information in a small space but don’t worry! Just remember to keep your target audience in mind. Put yourself in their shoes. Think about what essential things do they need to know about your brand and start from there.
These steps will optimize your profile, strengthen your online brand, and increase your target followers.
There are no rules set in stone. Design your Instagram Bio as you think best and enjoy the process.
